LA LAGUNA GRAN HOTEL

At La Laguna Gran Hotel, we have tried to highlight the traces left by history. There was a time when the grain mills in this city were powered by the streams from the nearby Anaga mountains. They ground the grain that gave Calle del Agua its original name, next to Plaza del Adelantado, opposite the Palacio de Nava y Grimón.

On this street, the enlightened intellectuals of Nava (who called themselves ‘Los Caballeritos’) would meet clandestinely to contrast the political situation of an island still half-governed with the ideals of Rousseau and Voltaire, outlawed by the Holy Inquisition.

The owner of this house, Fernando de la Guerra y del Hoyo Solórzano, together with José de Viera y Clavijo and other illustrious men of his time, debated the destiny of history while shaping it from their positions of privilege. The walls of La Laguna Gran Hotel hide numerous stories and legends.

After being the home of a wealthy family in La Laguna, it became a teacher training college. Later, it became the headquarters of the Don Álvaro tobacco factory. A place of worship for tobacco lovers, its fame spread beyond borders, even reaching the Big Apple with a point of sale there.

Today, La Laguna Gran Hotel is the most special project of a family where three generations have come together to make this place a magical corner where stories continue to be created. One of the most genuine features of Canarian identity, the fact of being emigrants or children of emigrants to America from the smaller islands of La Palma and El Hierro, unites the paths of the last three owners of the building.
